Evidence-Based Treatments and Counseling

Florecer Family Counseling is dedicated to providing expert mental health counseling services. Our team of highly trained professionals is equipped with a variety of treatment modalities to support clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other concerns. We specialize in evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and psychodynamic approaches, creating tailored treatment plans that best serve the individual needs of each client.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach to counseling that works to help clients conceptualize the connection between their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Through CBT, clients learn skills to help recognize and respond to unhelpful patterns of thinking that can lead to distress and maladaptive behaviors. Our therapists work with clients to help them identify and modify these patterns, leading to improved overall wellbeing.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a type of interviewing that engages the client in the process of change. This approach helps people to explore and resolve ambivalence about making positive changes in their lives. It is based on the principles of respect, empathy, and understanding in order to help the client move toward personal goals and healthier life choices.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a short-term, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals understand the impact of life changes and attachment styles on their relationships. Through IPT, clients learn how to effectively communicate and build meaningful connections with others, and gain an appreciation of what healthy relationships look like.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories. Our experienced therapist, Paula Whidden uses EMDR to help clients reduce the intensity of negative feelings associated with traumatic memories and improve their overall wellbeing. EMDR is a powerful tool that can bring relief to those stuck in the past.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of counseling that assists clients in gaining emotional balance. Through the use of skills training, it helps individuals become better equipped to regulate their emotions and interact with others in a more positive and effective way. DBT also teaches mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, allowing clients to learn how to approach life with greater self-confidence and acceptance.

Seeking Safety is trauma-focused and evidence-based treatment for individuals struggling with trauma and/or substance abuse. A goal in Seeking safety is to help individuals identify, understand, and address the impacts of trauma on their lives. It is also a strengths-based, goal-oriented treatment that helps individuals develop coping skills to manage their symptoms and create a safe and stable life.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment that is designed to help children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events. It combines cognitive and behavioral techniques to help individuals process and cope with the trauma, reduce associated distress, and increase positive emotions. Through TF-CBT, individuals can learn how to manage their responses to trauma-related memories and triggers and develop skills to cope with future stressors.

Child or Adult Traumatic Grief TF-CBT is a specialized trauma treatment for childhood traumatic grief that helps children and families heal from the devastating effects of traumatic loss. This therapy combines cognitive-behavioral, family, and trauma-focused techniques to help children better understand and cope with their emotions and behaviors related to the traumatic loss. TF-CBT has been proven to reduce symptoms of grief, trauma, and depression, and to help children and families find healthier ways of coping with their grief.

Gottman level 1 couples counseling is an evidence-based approach that helps couples strengthen their relationships teaching them the “Four Horsemen” of the Relationship Apocalypse, which are defensiveness, stonewalling, criticism, and contempt. Through this approach, couples learn to identify and change destructive patterns of communication and foster a deeper and more meaningful connection. Couples are coached on how to better communicate and understand each other, build trust, and create a deeper connection.

Prepare & Enrich is an evidence-based program that provides couples with the skills necessary to build and maintain a strong, healthy relationship. Through interactive exercises and assessments, couples can identify their strengths and areas of improvement, set goals, and practice effective communication techniques. With the help of a certified Prepare and Enrich counselor, couples may gain insight into their relationship and build a strong foundation for a lasting relationship.

SYMBIS is a comprehensive, evidence-based premarital counseling service designed to provide couples with the skills they need to build a strong, healthy and successful marriage. Symbis combines assessment, education, and skill-building to ensure couples have the best foundation possible to begin their marriage. Couples learn evidence-based skills to help them address issues such as communication, conflict resolution, and financial planning.

Christian Counseling is a service provided by mental health professionals with a faith-based approach, helping clients to find hope and healing through their relationship with God and others.  This type of counseling helps individuals find a spiritual connection in order to address and work through their personal struggles. It is tailored to meet the emotional and mental needs of those seeking mental health counseling from a Christian perspective. Therapists provide an empathetic and non-judgmental approach to support clients on boarding any conflicts or traumatic experiences related to their faith journey.
