The preteen years are confusing. One moment, your daughter is your little girl. The next, she's pulling away, rolling her eyes, or crying in her room over something that seems small to you but huge to her. Maybe you've noticed she's more emotional lately, or that her self-esteem has taken a hit. You want to help and support her, but when you try to talk about it, she shuts you down, leaving you with more questions about her well-being than answers. At Florecer Family Counseling, we work with many families in Woodland Hills and West San Fernando Valley, navigating these exact challenges. That's why we're excited to announce something new: Bloom, an exclusive Faith-Based Emotional Support Workshop for Preteen Girls launching in June 2026.

What Is This Workshop?
This is a specialized 8-week faith-based workshop designed specifically for girls ages 9-12 who need support navigating the emotional challenges of the preteen years. Led by licensed Christian therapists trained in adolescent development, this workshop provides a safe, supportive space where preteen girls can:
Learn to identify and name their emotions in healthy ways
Understand what causes big feelings and how emotions show up in their bodies
Develop biblical coping skills for anxiety, stress, and overwhelming emotions
Practice calming techniques like breathing and positive self-talk rooted in Scripture
Build confidence asking for help and expressing their needs
Connect with other Christian girls experiencing similar struggles
Discover what God's Word says about their emotions, identity, and worth.
The workshop meets weekly for 90 minutes, either online throughout California. Group size is limited to 8-10 girls to ensure personalized attention and a safe setting.
Why Faith-Based Emotional Support?
At Florecer Family Counseling, we believe that faith and mental health go hand-in-hand. Your daughter's emotions aren't separate from her faith—they're part of how God created her.
Many Christian preteen girls in Woodland Hills are receiving mixed messages:
"Don't be anxious about anything," - but she feels anxious all the time
"Jesus gives peace," - but she's overwhelmed and stressed
"God is in control," - but she feels out of control emotionally
"Christians should be joyful," - but she's struggling with sadness or anger
These messages can make girls feel like their emotions are a sign of weak faith or spiritual failure. However, these are misinterpreted messages, and below are a few correct interpretations:
This workshop teaches girls that:
Emotions are God-given. He created us with the ability to feel, and emotions serve important purposes.
Even people of great faith experienced big emotions. David felt fear and sadness (Psalms), Jesus wept (John 11:35), and Paul experienced distress (2 Corinthians 1:8).
God cares about our feelings. He invites us to bring our worries and fears to Him, not to hide them.
We can use biblical tools to manage emotions. Scripture gives us practical wisdom for handling stress, anxiety, anger, and sadness.
Our worth isn't based on being emotionally "perfect." We are loved and valued by God even when we're struggling.
By integrating faith with evidence-based emotional skills, we help Christian girls develop healthy emotional lives that honor both their feelings and their faith.
Why Preteen Girls Need This Support Now
If you're wondering whether your daughter really needs something like this, you're not alone. Many parents in Woodland Hills or throughout California may be asking: "Isn't she too young for this? Aren't these just normal preteen struggles?"
Here's the truth: Yes, the preteen years are naturally turbulent. But the challenges facing today's preteen girls are significantly different—and more intense—than what previous generations experienced. For example, a few challenges that your preteen might go through are:
Social media pressure: Even if your daughter doesn't have her own accounts yet, she's living in a culture shaped by social media. She sees filtered images of perfection. She hears about Instagram and TikTok from friends. She's already learning that image matters, likes matter, and being popular matters.
Academic pressure: In competitive communities like Woodland Hills, academic pressure starts early. Many preteen girls worry about grades, getting into the "right" middle school or high school, and measuring up to peers who seem to excel at everything.
Early puberty: Many girls experience puberty earlier than other girls, often starting as young as 9 or 10. Physical and hormonal changes are happening while they're still emotionally young—a confusing and sometimes scary combination.
Friendship complexity: The friendship dynamics of today's preteens involve group texts, social media drama, and exclusion that follows them home from school. There's no escape from social stress.
Stress epidemic: Research shows stress in children and adolescents has increased dramatically in recent years. Many of the girls we see in our Woodland Hills practice are already experiencing stress and anxiety by age 10 or 11.
The myth of having it all: Girls often feel pressure to excel academically, athletically, artistically, and socially—all while looking perfect and being effortlessly likable. It's an impossible standard.
Spiritual confusion: Christian girls are trying to understand how their faith applies to real-life struggles. They need guidance connecting what they hear at church on Sunday to what they experience at school on Monday.
What Makes This Workshop Different
We know there are other programs and activities available for preteen girls in the West San Fernando Valley. You might be wondering what makes this workshop unique. Below are a few things that make our workshop unique
Faith-integrated approach: This isn't therapy but an educational approach that weaves Faith throughout every session. Girls learn that their emotions matter to God, that Scripture offers real tools for managing feelings, and that they can go to God with their emotions.
Small, intimate groups: With only 6-8 girls per group, each participant receives individual attention and support. This isn't a large classroom setting where quiet girls can disappear into the background.
Evidence-based curriculum: The workshop uses proven therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and social-emotional learning—all integrated with biblical principles.
Safe, confidential space: We create a judgment-free zone where girls can be honest about their struggles without fear of gossip or feeling spiritually judged.
Parent involvement: While the workshop itself is just for girls (no parents in the virtual room), the workshops include a take-home session to practice with the parent.
Culturally responsive: Our therapists understand the unique pressures facing Latina Christian girls, first-generation daughters of professionals, and girls navigating multiple cultural identities within their faith communities.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is designed for Christian preteen girls ages 9-12 who:
Struggle with big emotions that feel overwhelming
Have difficulty identifying or expressing what they're feeling
Need practical tools for calming down when upset
Face friendship challenges or social difficulties
Feel pressure to be perfect
Want to understand their emotions from a biblical perspective
Would benefit from peer support and connection with other Christian girls
Are open to learning and participating in a group setting
Even if your daughter is not experiencing these symptoms, having an early understanding of what she might face later on will be extremely helpful for her.
Why June 2026?
You might wonder why we're launching this workshop in June rather than August or September when school starts.
There are several reasons June is actually ideal:
End-of-year stress: The end of the school year brings unique pressures—finals, social transitions, anticipation about summer and next year. Many preteen girls experience heightened anxiety during this time.
Summer preparation: June gives girls tools they can practice over the summer before facing the intensity of a new school year. They'll start the fall with better coping skills and emotional awareness.
More availability: During the school year, preteens are juggling homework, activities, and busy schedules. June often offers slightly more flexibility for families in Woodland Hills.
Building summer connections: The workshop provides social connection during a time when some girls feel isolated or bored. Participants build friendships with other Christian girls who understand what they're going through.
Spiritual growth time: Summer can be a season of spiritual growth without the academic pressures of the school year. This workshop provides structure for that growth while building practical life skills.
Space is extremely limited. Each group is capped at 6-8 girls to maintain the intimate, supportive environment that makes the workshop effective. We expect groups to fill quickly, given demand from Christian families throughout the West San Fernando Valley and California.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this workshop only for girls from certain Christian denominations? No. We welcome girls from all Christian backgrounds—Catholic, Protestant, non-denominational, etc. Our approach focuses on core biblical truths that transcend denominational differences.
What if my daughter is shy or resistant to participating? Many of the girls who benefit most from this workshop are initially hesitant. We're experienced at creating a welcoming environment where even shy girls feel comfortable. We also meet with your daughter beforehand to address her concerns. That said, if she's actively opposed, the workshop may not be the right fit at this time.
Will you tell me everything my daughter says in group? We maintain confidentiality to create a safe space for girls to open up. However, we do provide general updates about themes covered and skills taught, and we'll always inform you if there are safety concerns.
What if my daughter can't make all 8 sessions? We ask families to commit to all 8 weeks because consistency is important for group cohesion and individual benefit. If your daughter will miss more than one session, this might not be the right time to enroll.
Do girls need to bring a Bible? We'll provide all Scripture verses in handouts, but girls are encouraged to bring their own Bibles as well.
Is this only for girls with diagnosed mental health conditions? Not at all. This workshop is for any Christian preteen girl who could benefit from emotional support, skill-building, and peer connection grounded in faith. You don't need a diagnosis for your daughter to participate.
What if my daughter needs more support than a workshop can provide? The workshop facilitators will let you know if they believe your daughter would benefit from individual therapy in addition to or instead of the workshop. We can make appropriate referrals if needed.
Can boys attend? This particular workshop is designed specifically for girls because the developmental challenges and social dynamics differ by gender during the preteen years. We're exploring developing a similar program for boys in the future.
